Spring is here!

Spring has arrived and the sun gets hotter day by day; we are still waiting for the first rain. All those in Tsibogang who hate and fear the winter have come out of their hiding places. Early Learning Centres Our staff members who are doing the Montessori course have been busy with their teaching practice which started in the beginning of August and will end at the end of September. They were visited by Hawa Tayob, the director of the Montessori Early Learning Training Institute in Cape Town which runs the course they are doing. She visited...

Tlamelang Workshop in July

On 10.07.2017 52 home care givers of our Action Group Tlamelang assembled at St. Joseph’s Retreat center in Mahikeng to participate in the traditional five-day workshop. For this time of the year the temperatures were surprisingly mild. Like last year due to our financial constraints we were not able to accommodate the participants at the center but they had to travel daily to their homes. Those who came from outside Mahikeng were requested to seek accommodation from relatives or friends in Mahikeng. It was a sign of the good spirit that was...

News from all areas

News from all areas

With us in South Africa, the winter has already arrived: we had the first frost and sensitive cold temperatures during the day; if it is here under 20 °C despite the bright blue sky, then one knows that it is winter. In this blog I will report from all areas of the Tsibogang work. At the beginning of May, we had our Annual general meeting of Tsibogang. Dr Hermann announced a savings program for the next months. It looks inter alia. That the food allowance for all kindergartens and after school programs will be halved and there will be no food...

Moving into the new financial year with fears and concerns

The employees of Tsibogang were under a huge pressure this week. As this was the last week of the financial year we had to prepare everything for the auditor. We are moving into the new financial year, which starts here in April, with grave concerns because it promised to become were tight financially. This is due to the fact that last year we have lost two major long-term donors- Dorcas AID International and Agnes Phillipine Walter Stiftung, because they want to use their resources more and more for the refugees in Europe. Despite numerous...

News from Godisang

On the last day of this month, I will tell you something about the work in the two preschools. The ‘concert of crying children’ at the beginning of the year, when in Reboane Kiga 52 new children and in Godisang 26 new children began, is still gruesome in my ears. In the meantime, these children are totally engaged in their work, sometimes they do not even realize that their mothers are standing at the gate, wanting to pick them up. For us the teachers , however, the greatest step has not yet been done. We are still showing the children how to...

Retreat for the New Year

While for Tshepanang Members the Haphororo Retreat Centre at the Hartebeespoort Dam is well known since years for 24 Home Care Givers from Tlamelang it was for the first time that they experienced this special place on 05. -09.01.2017. They realized from the start how privileged they were to begin the New Year at this place. Far removed from the troubles of every day life the long prayer sessions that are held here every day at 7 o clock in the morning and in the evening as well as our program that contained several times of silence gave them...

Busy end of the year

Busy end of the year

This will be the last blog post this year. It is getting hotter, but also greener. For two weeks it has been raining and we cannot get enough rain. The work in Tsibogang is slowly rounding off: in recent weeks, we have had several major events which have cost a lot of work and preparation. In the first week of October, 24 peer educators went with Dr. Hermann to HaPhororo, a retreat house for young people near Pretoria. The house is picturesque in the mountains with a view of the Hartebeesportdam. Every day there are liturgical devotions with...

Tshepanang Workshop

We are very well aware that it is only through the amazing grace of God that our Action Group Tshepanang even this year was able to conduct a workshop for all our peer educators. This has been the sixteenth workshop of this kind. Without interruption there has much such a workshop every year since 2001! 50 participants gathered on 03.10.2016 at Gasteplaas (the Guest Farm) outside Mahikeng where they worked together for five days. Seven of them were new comers who have so far not yet taught in schools. The aim of this workshop was to empower...

Workshop for Home Care Givers

According to the latest available figures there were 450,000 new cases of Tuberculosis in South Africa. in 2014. More than 60% of them were HIV positive. Pulmonary Tuberculosis and HIV infections remain by fare South Africa’s biggest health problems and are the leading cause of death in our country. That’s why we dedicated this years Home Based Care Workshop of our Action Group Tlamelang again to these immense challenges. This seemed even more appropriate as this year we had 16 new Home Care Givers from Lomanyaneng who joint our organization...

Interview with Tebello Maseko

Hi Tebello, thanks for being ready to do this interview. Can you talk a little bit about yourself, where you come from, about your family and background? Our family originally comes from Klerksdorp and we moved to Mafikeng due to my father’s work. We struggled a lot in the beginning, we did not have a house, we were living in a shack but over time my father managed to build a house. I am the second born child at home but my sister passed away when I was very small. I do not remember her. My parents and myself we belong to the Catholic Church...
